Rolly

This is Rolly, my pet owl.  Rolly was inspired by this post from one of my all time favourite blogs El Hada de Papel.  As you can no doubt tell, Rolly is incredibly excited - today he is a guest over at On the Windy Side, Adrianne's lovely blog.  Check it out!

Canvas

Re-thinking a blank canvas: smooth wood from the kindling pile, smooth stones from our gravel driveway.

Fun on a sunny, mild winter's afternoon.

WIP Wednesday: 12 Grannies

On the design wall ...

It's a single bed quilt so there are going to be 24 blocks (4 x 6).  Not all of these will make the final cut, I've been surprised by how different the blocks look on the wall and from a distance.

WIP Wednesday: Fussy cutting and a tip

I'm busy with fussy cutting for the centre of granny square blocks at the moment and I've made a little "tool" to help with finding the bits of fabric I want to fussy cut.  Here are some of my fussy cuts:

Some of the fat quarters I bought recently had some square-ish bits of cardboard in them, I cut out a 2 1/2 inch square in the middle of it which then frames the fabric so you can see what the cut piece would look like.  I also find this useful to place on a piece of fabric to focus on the colours without being distracted by the whole piece of fabric.  Here's the "tool":

This black cats and bulldogs may not make it into the final quilt (too black) but it was fun making it.

Happy crafting!

PS - there's still time to enter my fabric giveaway!

To celebrate Pepper-Mae's birthday and our recent move to the South, we're having our first giveaway!

We're giving away two fat quarters* to one lucky punter - will it be you?  One fat quarter of the kokeshi fabric and one fat quarter of the coordinating cherry blossom fabric I used to make Pepper-Mae's party dress.

Here's a reminder of what the dress looks like:

And here's what's up for grabs:

Who wouldn't love that in their stash?  All you need to do to enter is:
  • follow my blog with either Bloglovin' or Google Friend Connect; and

The giveaway will stay open until about 5pm Friday, 12 July 2013 (New Zealand time). The giveaway is open to everyone, regardless of where you live.  I will need to be able to contact you so if you're a no-reply blogger you'll need to leave your email address in your comment.

Kokeshi Party Favors

If you're here for the giveaway, click here

A little more about Pepper-Mae's Kokeshi Party ...

For the party favors I created little 'Kokeshi peg doll' kits, made up of a wooden clothespeg with a selection of fabric scraps, yarn and ribbon.  We also put in a chocolate treat and put the favors in floral paper bags sealed with washi tape.  The paper bags were from the $3 Japan shop in Auckland.

If you like kokeshi then stay tuned, we're having a giveaway at the end of the week!
